Certain applications may change the icons layout on your desktop. For example, a game may run on a lower resolution and when you exit, the icons will be placed differently. If you have many shortcuts on the Windows desktop, it will take some time and effort to place them all in their original location. Alternatively, you can try Enterra Icon Keeper Deluxe and restore their positions with a single click.

The installed software will take up only one Mb of free space. Its setup file weighs even less and you can install it in a few seconds. It is supported by various Windows platforms, from the older Win 98 or ME, to the newer Windows Vista or Win 7.

Once installed, you will not find new shortcuts on your desktop. The application will integrate with Windows, so there is no need to launch it with an .exe file. If you right click anywhere on your desktop, you will find new context menu options. One of them will bring up a small interface, where your desktop icons are listed. Clicking the Save button, on the bottom edge of this window, will save the positions of the icons.

You can select or deselect entries in the list with check boxes, so you can save the positions of all icons or individual ones. It is possible to create and save multiple profiles. In this way, you can do whatever you want with your icons and you can restore any layout immediately, by loading one of the profiles. If the shortcuts on your desktop get scattered, for any reason, you can restore the original layout by clicking an option from the context menu.

Pros:
The application allows you to create multiple profiles, making it possible to save more than one layout. No matter how scattered they are, the icons will snap back into place by simply clicking an option.

Cons:
There are many limitations in the trial version.
